- Favorite Ride:
- I once rode solo up Angeles Crest Highway late at night all the way to the top of Mount Wilson (on my Transition Elite!), with no lights. It was freezing cold coming back down, but my tire blew and I didn't have any tire fixing stuff with me either. It was a long walk back down on Red Box Road to Angeles Crest where I hitched a ride. I like scary and risky night rides (I've spent many years in NYC! So I can definitely can handle urban-traffic danger). But any challenging ride is good, as long as you make it either a good aerobic workout, or an LT+ interval type of riding/training. I'm a TT kinda rider, so a special mention on the Fiesta Island Time Trials next to Sea World in San Diego (it's the only officially sanctioned TT race course in "my neighborhood" that allows me to currently average over 26-27mph over a 20km/12.5mi distance); which ain't bad for a Cat-4 guy like me :o)
- Why I Ride:
- Because unlike my distant ancestors long ago I'm not required to go out and hunt down prey, so I need an alternate way to make my body perform the way it should. It's fun to know you can work to achieve the perceived limits of human body performance!
- About Me:
- I BMX'ed as a pre-teen a good while back, and won my second BMX race (EBA sanctioned, in New York), but essentially did not ride through my late teens through twenty's. But here I am, in my mid-thirty's, and been training since mid-2005; almost 3 years now. I'm a good sprinter, though I've never won a crit (only 2nd places and such), I'm a good pursuer and rolleur-type, and won a couple of individual time trials recently at popular TT venues here in So-Cal, and currently ranked 2nd in the overall Cat-IV SoCalTT series, but that'll come down as I'm not doing anymore local TT events for this season, as I'm pursuing business endeavors here and overseas. It's one of the harshest contradictions in my life, to want to do nothing but RIDE (and EAT-DRINK); but I have to pursue these other dreams to, and my competitive training just don't quite mix it with my business ventures. This has been really tough on me. They say "go with the flow", but whatever I do, I'll try my best to make it a raging river before reaching the final destinations.
