From Maidstone, any circular route that takes me through the Kent countryside, through the small villages of Marden, Horsmonden, Sissinghurst, Goudhurst, Sutton Vallence, Leeds past the world renowned Leeds Castle www.leeds-castle.com. Alternatively route through Aylesford past Aylesford Priory home of the Order of Carmelite monks dating back to the 13th century www.thefriars.org.uk, to Burham following the path of the River Medway across the Medway bridge/Eurostar international rail link crossing, onwards to Rochester and its cathedral. Enjoy riding the annual London to Brighton ride, in June, distance 56 miles, the largest organised bike ride in the world, in aid of the British Heart Foundation, 30,000 riders. www.bhf.org.uk also various rides around the country organised by www.bike-events.co.uk throughout the year.

Why I Ride:

To maintain fitness and offload the stress of working in a pressurised environment in the City of London, gives me the ability to be at one with myself and the elements, the more varied and challenging the route the better.

About Me:

A keen veteran roadie, aged 58, club rider/racer in the late 60's and early 70s. No lightweight, still average 50 miles on a Sunday morning, enjoy varied terrain. Avid Tour de France follower, Caisse d'Epargne team fan. Wish I was younger, I would love to ride it for the challenge and experience. Rode Paris-Roubaix,'Hell of the North', to celebrate my 40th birthday, unforgettable experience. Great admirer of previous Tour riders, Tom Simpson, Bernard Hinault, Gregg Lemond, Marco Pantani, and the legendary Lance Armstrong. Current favourites Oscar Pereiro, Alejandro Valverde, Robbie McEwen. Thoroughly enjoy riding my Specialized Tarmac Comp, it's off the hook!
