Hey Anne, most of the rides are outside of Estes due to RMNP taking up all the best single track. But if you look on a map, the name that I go to are, Pole Hill, and Crosier Mt. which are both very close to Estes. Further south up towards twin sisters where I live, there is Johnny Park (which is a jeep road, but a fun ride that takes you from highway 7 down to 36 between Estes and Lyons), Pearson Park, and Lions Gulch are all behind the twin sisters. Then if you don't mind a short drive, there are some good rides off of 72 towards Ward, and Nederlands. I can't remember a lot of the smaller side trails, but the main one in the South Saint Varain.
Those are the main ones I like, but there are tons of others if you feel like exploring. Most of the trail I mentioned are out and backs or point to point drop offs.
I hoped that helped! Happy Riding!

Hey there! I race for a local (to DC) team called Route 1 Velo/Capitol Hill Bikes. I look pretty stoic in that pic because I wasn't going too hard at the time (was off the back in the midst of a race!) Back in college I used to go to Estes Park every summer to do "high altitude training" with my cross-country team. Loved going to Ed's Cantina.

I hate walking. My Specialized frame broke a few months back and I ended up walking. Two years out of warranty, so I'm hosed.

Hello, Anne and thank you for the nice comment on my travels. This year I was in coastal California, all over Virginia and in Alsace and Germany. In February/March last year I even rode in Colorado at the National Monument Park. I would love to ride in DC with you but I am about to move to Canada. Good riding there too, although the season is shorter!

you should check out Shindagin for sure, just type it into google for all you need to know, they recently reworked the trails. I haven't made it out there this summer but I will sometime soon.

Although with you coming from NoVA, you probably have lots of roads you could have shown me here. I will be in Ottawa, only 12 hours by car from the Shenandoah. Not as exciting riding as, say, Alberta and BC but still the Ottawa Bicycle Club is one of the oldest and biggest in North America. You have a very cool job, by the way. I need to find a way to get paid to go riding. Check out my blog at www.tindonkeytravels.blogspot.com where I have written up a lot of my trips.

I just moved here last week and am in Millbrooke by town square off of Beauregard St. I just got a job with FEMA and should be starting the 17th so I have some time to explore. I will definitely check out that shop, thanks for the help. So far I am loving the area here I think it will all turn out great.
