The Local Bay Area Super Prestige Final

veröffentlicht von: at 12:14 on Dezember 16, 2009

I was excited about this race, and determined to move myself further up in the series standings. I was tied for 10th going in, and knew that this race was worth more points than usual. It was also the last local race I planned to do before going to Nationals. I wanted to do well here so I could go to nationals with some confidence.

At the start line, I realized that some of my usual competition was either in Portland racing the US Grand Prix, or possibly at home hibernating for the winter. It was starting to get quite cold for us sheltered Bay folk.  The field was still quite strong though, with Kerry Barnholt, Karen Brems, and the usual Rocklobsters on the line. I got a call up, and was on the front line for the start.  It was the first time in a while!

At the gun I sprinted and dug hard. We started a climb and I was 6th wheel. I moved up during the first lap, and stayed with the leaders.  This course included quite a variety of surfaces, including a sand ride/run and lots of curb hopping. There were many places to really use your power, especially on the cement and gravel. A few technical sections through the trees/roots made me slow down.

The leaders were slipping away from me about halfway through the race, but I kept my sites on Stella Carey, who was about 20 seconds ahead. I wasn't closing, but she wasn't getting away either. I saw her ride the entire sand section! Impressive because there is a 180 turn in there!

People were yelling and encouraging me to catch, but I was quite pleased with my 5th, and the huge gap behind me. Finally I felt like one of the leaders. I wasn't lost in the shuffle this time, and made the podium!
Thanks again Jeanine for being the best team mate ever, doing so much driving, and sticking around in that rainy crap weather. Now let's do Nationals!
