"Monster" Cross

This was the first time a cross race has been organized for this location. I was a little skeptical at first, and worried for my safety, but after a few pre-ride laps I saw that it was totally doable. The race started with a steep but short climb on cement. Then you entered a BMX style course inside the building. It was short and sweet.
After exiting the building you made a fast descent on cement into a mushy mud pit. The organizers brought in mud, and deliberately flooded the area. If the mud didn't stop you, the the 25 crumbling steps carved out of soil surely would. This is where things got tricky, because the muck was so sticky on your shoes it was vert difficult to clip back in.
And you needed to clip in quick , because a very steep descent followed. I went down it several times with only one foot properly on the pedal hoping to save some time. Probably not the safest way down. At the bottom was a quick right with a berm into more lumpy mud.
Next was the spiral that people called the "nautilus" or 'inner ear. Lots of turning one way, then the other thought a flooded field. It was a real mess. My lap times were just over 4 minutes, so a lot happened in a very short amount of time!
I really enjoyed this race, and somehow won a 12 Pack of New Belgium Fat tire! I got 5th place.
