Hawk's Nest

Was just in Boone, NC for the Hawk's Nest cyclocross race. This was probably the most fun I have had at a race this season. Shaw Brown and the rest of the folks at Boone Bike and Black Cat burritos put on the raddest most hardcore Cross race I can recall ever being at!!!
The layout of the course was incredible. I headed up to the venue on Saturday ( the day before the race) and found Shaw running some tape. This where I realized this would be a blast. Upon setting up one section "The Devil's Spiral" I was completly confused on how this monstrousity they were building would work... When laid out it was a beautiful thing. The rider upon entering spiraled inward on it self three complete loops before spitting you out into the straight leading to the barriers. The course became even more entertaining after the barriers. They had incorporated a spectacular downhill with a couple of chicanes in it, thats where you could pick out the roadies. After the descent, there was a grueling little climb than a pass through anarchy. It was splendid, the course came into the beer tent, where the racer was greeted by slightly druken holigans!!! It was wicked sweet!
This race was how it is supposed to be. Yes it was competive when you where out on the course, but the cool thing was winning really did not matter wheather you were first or forty-ith you had a blast.
