Reche Canyon School Visit

posted by CRSunshine at 09:26 PM on April 09, 2008

Our wonderful host family Carol and Dick Gentilli set-up a school visit just around the corner from where the team was staying at Reche Canyon Elementary School.

This was the team's second Bike and Helmet Safety Presentation of the season.  Our goal is to visit at least 10 schools this year throughout the country.  Our next visit will be during the Athens Twilight Criterium at Barrow Elementary in Athens, GA.

Once again about 250 kids assembled outside around the playground and as I introduced each rider they rode into the center of the assembly to big cheers from the kids.

The riders introduced themselves and gave a little bit about their backgrounds and how they became professional bicycle racers.  Following introductions they went over how to fit your helmet properly and how important it is to protect your head when you are out riding.  Basic hand signals and rules of the road as well followed by a Q&A.  We love it when we are challenged with questions like, "what do you do if you have to go to the bathroom."

As we left we handed out helmets to all the 40 teachers to distribute to their classrooms...everyone was very happy!
