Sometimes I forget

…I forget how enjoyable cycling can be when you’re not training/racing 20+mph. :)
Today, since I’m still cootie-filled and feeling poopie I decided to take a Globe City 6 Women’s IG8 bike into downtown for lunch.
It brought me for a fleeting moment back "home" to Padova, Italia, where I didn't own a car (didn't want to/need to) and a rode my mixte Graziella everyone in town, around town, out of town with groceries on my handlebars, feathering the somewhat functional breaks with one hand as I'd carry an umbrella in the other. Yes, a truely Italian skill...on cobbles. I was dang proud to have mastered that one.
Cycling truely is a lifestyle choice. It's not just about going zoom-ZOOM! all the time. It's also about taking a moment for myself, and my planet. And it's about slowing down, and looking around at my neighborhoods and local businesses from the seat of an upright commuter bike and enjoying the sun. Lord knows if I didn't live 30+ miles away (into the headwind in *both* directions) I'd ride my bike to work every day. And I would say "ha HA!" at all of the $4.00+/gal NorCal gas stations. *sigh*
I enjoyed toot-toot-tooting around at lunch so much today, I decided against stopping when I reached downtown MoHill, and ended up riding to the end of town and back...at the grand ol’ speed of probably 6mph.
Grabbed two tacos at Super Taq and headed back to my desk with a big ol' smile.
I call it a good day.
:D

Ha, you were riding a traditional Dutch style "oma fiets" (granny bike)! It's so awesome to read your story. It describes the European way of life so well. I never drove and rode my oma fiets bike everywhere. I don't miss much but that I do...

I think you should send this to Bicycling Magazine! Truly. I think we should have a 'oma fiets' race. Let's get a bunch of Globes and race them.
