Champery World Cup 2007

We are now in the Swiss Alps for round three of the World Cup Series. This is the first triple event of 2007, meaning that the 4 Cross and Downhill Riders are also competing here, so the race area is super busy with lots of events taking place. Our focus though is on crosscountry as our sole 4 Cross and Downhill rider Kyle Strait is currently targeting his freestyle events. The team arrived to Champery on Tuesday, one day earlier than normal, because racing for the crosscountry riders is on Saturday and not Sunday. Once again team moral is high. The mechanics consist of Benno, Leo and Joe Staub who has just joined us. Joe hails from Colorado, USA and he will work directly with The Chinese Girls for the remainder of the season. Claire our soigneur is also here doing her usual very good job.
On race morning the sun was shining and the outlook was good. It always lifts the team atmosphere when the weather is good and it seems to lift everybody’s spirits around the event as a whole.
Gunn Rita Dahle suffered from a stomach bug and as a result did not make the start line today, thus leaving the race wide open. Lene was determined to produce a good start and she did not fail in doing so. Despite starting 29th on the grid, on the first start loop Lene was in 11th position, which was extremely positive. However, as she put it herself her legs have not been feeling good and she has been really suffering in the races. Slowly she dropped back down the field as the race progressed, which is extremely frustrating for her, because she knows that she is capable of so much more. I too know that Lene’s time will come, we just must be patient. For now Lene had to be content with a 29th final position.categories: General
